Govind Dumbre’s immersive paintings pack a reality punch. With over 15 years of experience in painting landscapes, Govind’s work has the power to bring to life the natural scenery through his canvas. His style is largely distinguished by the usage of transparency in the paintings and along with a load of colours. His paintings beautifully roll the dual elements of nature into one. Govind is a Masters of Art from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune with a Government Diploma in Art (Painting) from the same institute. Now, he is giving back to art not just through his limitless work, but also as a teacher at Chitari Academy of Fine Arts, Camp, Pune.
What does art mean to you?
Art means everything to me. It is my passion. Since I was a child, I knew I wanted to become an artist. For me art is about being with oneself and being creative. I feel one can totally immerse in art, colours and nature around us.
Your work ...
I am most comfortable with watercolours and acrylics. I work a lot on rain-dripped landscapes and reflections on water. I have travelled to many places in India to bring out its beauty on canvas. I have spent considerable time in Himachal Pradesh, Benaras and the Konkan region of Maharashtra.
What is your inspiration?
It is nature – the natural surroundings. I have been fortunate enough to have spent my childhood in the hinterlands and be around nature. I have learnt so much just being outdoors. I enjoy painting sombre village scenes the most.
